When Allergies Attack,
Strike Back with
the Right Air Filters
Many Americans have allergies but aren't aware of it. Nearly half of those with allergies are allergic to particles in the air . But many don't realize that it doesn’t have to be this way. New air
filters can improve the air quality in your home by up to
99%, so that
you
can live virtually allergy-free.
When you suffer from an allergy attack, your body is trying to fend off an allergen – a foreign substance
that the immune system mistakes for something hostile, like
bacteria.
There are several ways that allergens can enter a house. Mold,
mildew, and spores can grow in damp, poorly lit areas of
your home like your basement, as well as bathrooms, and release
harmful
allergens. Other particles enter through the windows. Many Americans have allergies when exposed to
the waste produced by dust mites, which are microscopic creatures
that live in bed sheets, carpets, and furniture. Although dogs and cats are frequent in many households, the dander
from
a dog, cat, or other furry animal can also produce pet allergies.
And, of course, there is pollen. The pollen-laden Alder, Ash, and Cypress are some of the
most common trees in Los Angeles, while Bent and Bermuda grass
can be found on many golf courses. In the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Westwood,
Brentwood, West Los Angeles, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, and Santa
Monica, for instance, the most allergy-producing pollen comes
from Alder, Ash and Cypress trees, as well as Bent and Bermuda
grass.
While preventative measures like washing your bed sheets in
hot water and hypoallergenic pillows can reduce the allergens
in
your home, the most effective way to combat
an allergy is with filters that clean your air directly.
For example, a furnace filter, like the 3M Filtrate Ultra
Allergen Reduction Filter, is specially designed to reduce
the allergens
in your whole house. Carrier offers Energy Recovery Ventilators
that push the contaminated air outside your home, and refresh
it with clean air, getting rid of pollen and other allergy-producers.
One of the best ways to fight allergies is with a HEPA Air
Cleaner. The Aprilaire® Media Air Cleaner (formerly Space-Gard®),
can filter particles as small as one micron – much
smaller than a pollen particle – in small rooms, like
a bedroom.
These filters are so efficient that even asthma sufferers
can get some relief. A good filter will remove contaminants
and allergens
so that you can enjoy your home in comfort.
